Hillary Clinton Projected to Win NY Democratic Primary

ABC News projects Hillary Clinton will win the New York Democratic primary, based on vote analysis.

With 74 percent of the expected vote in, Clinton leads with 58 percent of the vote compared to Sanders' 42 percent.

According to preliminary exit poll analysis, seven in 10 New York Democratic voters said they think Clinton will be the eventual nominee. Moreover, two-thirds of voters said she has a better chance of beating Republican front-runner Donald Trump in November than her competitor Bernie Sanders.

The state's pledged 247 delegates will be awarded proportionally. There are an additional 44 superdelegates also up for grabs.

Clinton's win was largely expected by political insiders.

The former secretary of state, who represented New York in the Senate for eight years, had been leading all New York state polls by double digits in the week prior to the primary.

Before the results were officially announced, Sanders tried to reassure supporters at a rally in Pennsylvania.

"We are going to do a lot better I think than people thought we would," Sanders said.

ABC News' MaryAlice Parks and Matthew Claiborne contributed to this report.
