ABC News projects that Donald Trump will win the New York Republican primary, based on exit poll analysis.
After casting his voting in Manhattan, Trump told reporters earlier today it "would mean a lot" to win New York's primary. The real estate mogul grew up in the New York City borough of Queens.
Trump’s projected win is thanks to record levels of demand from New York Republican primary voters for an outsider, a straight-talker and a change agent.
According to preliminary exit polls results, nearly two-thirds of GOP primary voters from the Empire State prefer an outsider over someone with political experience for top office.
Six in 10 voters said they were mainly looking either for a candidate who “can bring needed change” or “tells it like it is.”
Over half of the GOP voters who cast their votes today believe Trump has the best chance to beat Hillary Clinton in November if she’s the Democratic nominee.
