Carol Ann Susi, 'Big Bang Theory' mom, dies at 62 (VIDEO)

Brooklyn-bred actress Carol Ann Susi, an unseen force on 'The Big Bang Theory,' lost her battle with cancer and died in Los Angeles on Tuesday. She was 62.

Susi's unforgettable voice became a character in its own right as Howard's mom, Mrs. Wolowitz, a fixture on CBS' highest-rated comedy. Her off-screen, booming exchanges with her son in that distinctive brassy Brooklyn tone added a level of absurdity to an already outrageous comedy.

'My heart is broken. I will miss your smile. Your spirit is forever with us,' show co-star Kunal Nayyar tweeted.

The fact Susi had such a presence without appearing on camera puts her on a short list of TV's most famous non-characters, from John Forsythe's Charlie in 'Charlie's Angels' to Ed Hindman's odd neighbor on 'Home Improvement.'

'Unseen by viewers, the Mrs. Wolowitz character became a bit of a mystery throughout the show's eight seasons,' 'Big Bang Theory' production company Warner Bros. announced. 'What was not a mystery, however, was Carol Ann's immense talent and comedic timing, which were on display during each unforgettable appearance.'

The veteran character actress made numerous guest appearances on TV shows since the 1970s, from 'The Night Stalker' and 'Simon & Simon' to 'Cheers' and 'NYPD Blue.'

'Seinfeld' fans remember Susi as the daughter of an unemployment officer who George takes on a date in a two-part 1992 episode which also featured Mets star Keith Hernandez.

Susi, who appeared in 39 episodes of 'The Big Bang Theory,' is survived by her brother, Michael Susi, and his wife, Connie.
