Trump Name to Be Removed From NYC Apartment Buildings

Donald Trump's name is expected to be permanently removed from an apartment complex on Manhattan’s Upper West Side due to numerous complaints from tenants.

The buildings located at 140, 160 and 180 Riverside Boulevard will be renamed for their street addresses, according to Equity Residential, which owns the three buildings. The Trump Place name, emblazoned in big gold letters, could be removed as early as this week.

"We are assuming a more neutral building identity that will appeal to all current and future residents," Marty McKenna, a spokesman for the Chicago-based company, said in a statement.

An online petition urging the landlord of the Riverside apartments to "Dump the Trump Name" garnered more than 600 signatures. "Our home is our most personal private space," according to the petition, and the residents wanted to "feel proud and happy to walk" into the building every day.

"Trump’s appalling treatment of women, his history of racism, his attacks on immigrants, his mockery of the disabled, his tax avoidance, his outright lying -- all are antithetical to the values we and our families believe in," the petition stated.

Trump had reportedly been involved in the building development, known at various times as Riverside South and Trump Place, in the 1990s. Equity Residential had purchased the buildings and kept the Trump Place name on the exterior.

Three other buildings in the same complex are managed by the Trump Organization and will keep the president-elect's name.
