President Obama Celebrates New African-American History Museum

President Barack Obama called the opening of a new museum celebrating the history and culture of African-Americans a mark of "progress."

“We’re here just to acknowledge what an extraordinary achievement has been accomplished,” Obama said Friday afternoon at a White House reception in advance of the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.

Obama, who has visited the museum twice in recent days, called it “a breathtaking new building” on the National Mall, located just to the east of the Washington Monument.
