In the heart of the general election season, Hillary Clinton has decided to take two days off and possibly more following the diagnosis of pneumonia by her doctor, Lisa Bardack, who suggested Clinton "rest and modify her schedule."
Clinton was scheduled to fly to San Francisco Monday for a fundraiser. That event is still happening, but Clinton won't be there instead calling in from her house in Chappaqua, NY.
"If it was up to her she would be traveling to California today," said Clinton press secretary Brian Fallon on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports."
"This morning she's already been calling staff. She made phone calls this morning. She will be dialing into that finance event on the West Coast later today," Fallon said. "I expect by the middle to later in the week she'll be on the campaign trail.”
In addition to the San Francisco fundraiser, Clinton will miss two fundraisers Tuesday in Los Angeles including one at the home of Seth McFarlane featuring a performance by Lionel Richie. The other fundraiser is hosted by Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller, costing $100,000 per couple. It's unclear whether Clinton will call in remotely to these events.
“If it was up to her, she would be out in the next five minutes," said Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook.
On Sunday, Clinton told reporters she was "feeling great" when she left daughter Chelsea Clinton's Manhattan apartment after becoming "overheated" at the 9/11 anniversary ceremony.
Roughly eight hours later, Bardack released a statement that she diagnosed Clinton with pneumonia on Friday and put her on antibiotics. Following the diagnosis, Clinton held a packed schedule Friday which included a national security roundtable with a few questions from the press, two fundraisers, and two taped interviews.
"It is important to take good care of yourself. All of us are frequently in awe of the schedule that our own boss keeps," said Fallon.
Clinton is scheduled to attend a campaign event in Las Vegas, NV on Wednesday, but her campaign has not said whether that trip will still happen.
