President Obama blasted the Senate for blocking four votes on gun control measures, considered in the wake of the Orlando nightclub massacre in which 49 people were killed and 53 injured.
In a presidential tweet, Obama expressed his frustration.
One doomed measure would have closed the so-called “gun show loophole” by requiring background checks on gun purchasers at gun shows and on the internet.
Another failed attempt would have blocked the sale of guns to people on the terrorist watch list for 72 hours while the government tries to prove, via the court system, that the person is actually a terrorist threat.
A third measure would have barred anyone on the terrorist watch list from buying a gun, while a fourth would have increased the resources available to prosecutors for violators of gun laws.
