News of Clinton's Historic Nomination Reaches Susan B. Anthony

On Election Day 1872, suffragette Susan B. Anthony illegally voted for a president. She was later arrested and fined $100 for the voting as a woman.

On Election Day 2016, a woman’s name will presumably top the ticket for a major political party for the first time in U.S. history.

As news of Hillary Clinton’s nomination spread, Anthony’s contributions to this milestone have not been forgotten.

At her grave site in Rochester, New York, visitors have left flowers, an “I Voted” sticker, and a newspaper with that momentous headline: “Clinton Set to Make History.”
