Hackers Breached DNC Computers, Stole Research on Trump

Russian government hackers were able to breach the Democratic National Committee's computers, stealing opposition research on presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, a Democratic Party official confirmed to ABC News today.

According to the Washington Post, which first reported the news, hackers were able to access all messages and emails sent over the DNC system.

DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., said the intrusion was treated like the “serious” incident it is.

"The security of our system is critical to our operation and to the confidence of the campaigns and state parties we work with," Wasserman Schultz told ABC News today. "When we discovered the intrusion, we treated this like the serious incident it is and reached out to Crowdstrike immediately. Our team moved as quickly as possible to kick out the intruders and secure our network."

ABC News reached out to Crowdstrike, a cybersecurity company brought on by the DNC to respond to the incident, but did not immediately receive a response.
