A Maryland man and delegate for Donald Trump was indicted by a federal grand jury late yesterday for allegedly shipping explosives, illegal possession of a machine gun and child pornography offenses.
Caleb Bailey was elected as a delegate for Trump from the state’s 5th Congressional District, the Maryland GOP confirms. The Trump campaign condemned the allegations and said Bailey will be replaced.
“We strongly condemn these allegations and leave it in the capable hands of law enforcement,” Hope Hicks told ABC News in a statement. “He will be replaced immediately.”
Bailey, 30, of Waldorf, Maryland allegedly used a minor for the production of child pornography from March 2015 to January 2016, according to U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein.
In addition, court documents say this past February he tried to ship a package that contained 119 rounds of .50 caliber cartridges with incendiary projectiles as well as 200 other rounds with explosive charges.
“Neither Bailey nor the individual to whom the package was addressed had a federal explosives license to transport the explosives contained in the package,” the release from Rosenstein reads.
Later, on May 5, 2106, police obtained search warrants and allegedly seized a machine gun from his home.
Bailey faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison the weapons charges, and between 15-30 years for the child pornography charges.
His lawyer, William Brennan, Jr., said that Bailey will be arraigned next week and plans to enter a not guilty plea. He declined to comment further.
