Clinton Emails: State Dept. Likely to Miss Deadline

The State Department is expected to fall well short of a court-ordered mandate to release all 55,000 pages of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's emails by today.

It was required as part of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit to finish the production today and release the remaining 9,900 pages of her emails. But officials say that the number of pages released today will be closer to 1,000.

The reasons for the delay vary. Officials said the blizzard that shut down the government for three days in the last week didn't help matters. And last week, when the State Department requested a one-month extension from the court, it argued there were too many documents and that the remaining emails are "the most complex to process as they contain a large amount of material that required interagency review."

Those other agencies include divisions of the intelligence community, some of which are claiming her emails contain TOP SECRET information.

The court did not formally grant an extension and it was unclear what the repercussions may be for missing today's deadline.

Clinton has denied any of her emails contain classified information and suggested that the intelligence community is working with Republicans in Congress to selectively leak materials and tarnish her campaign for presidency. The head of the Senate Intelligence Committee rejected that claim.
