NEW YORK - (AP) -- New York City's mayoral mansion has gotten a higher fence after White House fence-jumping incursions raised security concerns.
A spokeswoman for Mayor Bill de Blasio (BLAH'-zee-oh) said Friday that the head of the mayor's security detail decided to raise the fence around Gracie Mansion. The house sits in a public park.
The New York Post (http://bit.ly/1wiI70z ) first reported Friday on the taller barrier being built inside an existing brick wall and wrought-iron fence. The new barrier is about 3 feet higher.
Work began in October and was finished last month.
De Blasio and his family are the first residents since before the Sept. 11 attacks. Then-mayor Rudy Giuliani had moved out of the mansion before the attacks. His successor, Michael Bloomberg, lived in his own home.
