JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) - Senate Democrats' campaign arm spent almost $1 million a day last month to defend their majority.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee on Monday released a summary of its September fundraising that shows it raised $16 million last month and began October with more than $14 million ready to spend. The figures also indicate the DSCC spent $27 million during that 30-day period.

Its GOP rival, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, last week said it raised $15.5 million in September. It declined to release how much cash it had saved, so it is impossible to know how much it spent until the full reports are released next week.

Democrats have consistently bested Republicans in fundraising. The DSCC has outraised the NRSC by $29 million since January 2013.
