With UN officials issuing warnings of Ebola becoming a widespread health issue, countries across the world are taking measures to keep a check on the same.

New York's JKF airport authorities have already began screening passengers and crew who arrive from any of the countries belonging to epidemic hit West African region. It is noteworthy that more than 4,000 people have died from Ebola in seven countries in the West African region since beginning of this year.

Passengers and crew therefore are being put to stringent tests at JKF airport. They have their temperatures taken and are screened for any potential sign of Ebola. They also have to answer potential questions on their possible exposure, if any. The whole process is being monitored by US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.

However, sources at US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention point out that exit screening cannot be considered a foolproof measure as some patients with initial signs of Ebola might not come under the scanner of health authorities. Ebola testing is also being started at four other major airports in US soon, as early as beginning of next week.

IMF chief Christine Lagarde has pointed out that as Ebola is concentrated only in three African nations, it is not right to keep the entire West African region under scanner. The three African nations including Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea have already seen their economies crumbling owing to Ebola outbreak and efforts must be made earnestly to rein in the deadly virus.
