The Miami Dolphins announced Tuesday morning running back Knowshon Moreno has been placed on the injured reserve list with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, effectively ending his 2014 season.
Moreno signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins in March. He led the NFL in rushing with 134 yards after a Week 1, 33-20 win against the New England Patriots.
Moreno had six carries for 10 yards Sunday after missing the previous two games. He also had one carry for 4 yards in a 29-10 loss at Buffalo in Week 2.
Moreno's 2011 season was cut short due to an ACL tear, but the six-year veteran rebounded toward the end of 2012 finishing the season as the Denver Broncos' primary running back. He thrived in 2013 with his most productive season starting 15 of 16 games and rushing for 1,038 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The Dolphins are 2-3, and currently third in the AFC East coming off a 27-24 loss to Green Bay.
