NCAA lifts Penn State's bowl ban, restoring scholarships in 2015

The NCAA has lifted the rest of the sanctions placed on Penn State for the Jerry Sandusky scandal, including immediately eliminating the postseason ban.

Penn State was halfway through a four-year postseason ban handed down during the summer of 2012. The NCAA last year rescinded some of the scholarship sanctions against Penn State.

In a news release Monday, the NCAA says that in addition to the postseason ban being lifted, Penn State will be allowed to have the full complement of football scholarships in 2015.

'Due to Penn State University's significant progress toward ensuring its athletics department functions with integrity, the NCAA Executive Committee today eliminated the school's postseason ban, effective immediately, and will return the full complement of football scholarships in 2015-16,' the NCAA announced in an official release.

In 2012, the NCAA banned the football team from all post-season play and bowl games for four years, reducing the program's number of scholarships from 25 to 15 per year for four years, and fining the program $60 million.

Penn State is off to a 2-0 start to the season after victories against UCF and Akron, CBSSports.com reports. The Nittany Lions open Big Ten play at Rutgers on Saturday.
