09.00 Barack Obama and David Cameron have written a joint editorial in The Times (£) this morning, in which they vow their nations 'will not be cowed' by extremists:

Our nations have always believed that we are more prosperous and secure when the world is more prosperous and secure...

And it is why we will not waver in our determination to confront Isil. If terrorists think we will weaken in the face of their threats they could not be more wrong.

Countries like Britain and America will not be cowed by barbaric killers.

08.30 Good morning and welcome to our live coverage of the Nato summit starting today at Celtic Manor Resort in Wales.

World leaders are due to arrive from around 9.00am, ahead of introductory remarks by Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the Nato Secretary-General.

The official main topics for discussion today are Afghanistan and Ukraine. But in light of the murder of Steven Sotloff and James Foley by Islamic State jihadists, Isil and terror in the Middle East are sure to be the focus of many sideline talks.

Barack Obama and David Cameron are expected to meet later on today for talks.

Petro Poroshenko will attend the meeting later on over the Ukraine crisis by invitation, despite not representing a Nato member state.
