Hajj is opportunity to promote Muslim unity: Leader

TEHRAN -Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei has said that the annual Hajj pilgrimage provides an opportunity to create unity among Muslims and put an end to discord and distrust among Muslims.

The Leader made the remarks during a meeting with Hajj officials in Tehran on Sunday.

One of the problems facing the Islamic world is efforts that are being made by major powers and their elements to create discord in the Islamic world and Muslims should use the opportunity of Hajj to foster unity and solidarity, the Leader asserted.

He also said Hajj provides an opportunity to exchange views on resolving the Islamic world's problems.

Today, the Islamic world is in a critical situation and the arrogant powers have been trying to 'create discord and distrust among Muslims,' the Leader added.

He went on to say that unfortunately, some Muslims, both Shia and Sunni, help the enemies of Islam by fabricating lies and making accusations which just serve the interests of the U.S. and Israel.

The Leader went on to say that the Palestine issue is the Islamic world's first priority and Muslims should give special attention to the issue during the Hajj pilgrimage.

The Leader noted that Muslims should take away the enemy's 'tool', which is creating discord among Muslims, through their solidarity and awareness.

The Leader said the 'takfiri' ideology is a tool by the enemy to create discord among Muslims and distract their attention from the Palestine issue in order to serve the interests of the Zionist regime.

A takfiri is a Muslim who accuses another Muslim of being an unbeliever. Most takfiri groups believe that only their group's interpretation of Islam -- or sometimes also similar groups' interpretation -- is correct, and all other Muslims are unbelievers.

'Gaza war showed Muslims are strong'

'Recent victory in the Gaza Strip revealed that Muslims are strong and have many capabilities and are able to challenge enemies and defend themselves,' he noted.

Israel launched an intensive aerial military campaign against Gaza in early July and later expanded its operation with ground invasions.

After more than seven weeks of war on Gaza, Palestinian resistance groups and Israeli officials reached an agreement on a permanent ceasefire for the besieged Gaza Strip on August 26.
