Missouri grand jury mulling Darren Wilson's shooting of Michael Brown has 3 ...

The streets of Ferguson were peaceful for a second straight night.

Non-violent demonstrations took the place of fierce riots in the St. Louis suburb where a white police officer fatally shot unarmed black 18-year-old Michael Brown earlier this month.

Only seven people were arrested overnight Thursday, a small figure compared to the dozens detained earlier this week.

The calm allowed Gov. Jay Nixon to order the Missouri National Guard, which arrived Monday, to begin withdrawing. The troops will begin a phase-out later Friday.

Immediately after Brown's Aug. 9 killing, the protests in the city were chaotic: looters raided stores, vandals burned buildings and gunmen opening fire on police. A whopping 47 people were arrested in the mayhem Tuesday night.

But on Wednesday, police arrested only six people. On Thursday, there were just seven arrests, mainly for failure to disperse.

'Tonight we had a good night,' Highway Patrol Captain Ron Johnson told CBS St. Louis. 'Let's enjoy and know we're headed to a sense of peace for our community.'

While the protesters are now peaceful, they still have demands. Several protesters were still calling Thursday night for St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch to be removed from the case.

Some question McCulloch's ability to be unbiased since his father, mother and other relatives worked for St. Louis police. His father was killed while responding to a call involving a black suspect.

McCulloch reiterated Thursday that he has no intentions of stepping aside

A grand jury began considering evidence this week to determine whether the officer who shot Brown, Darren Wilson, should be charged. Magee said there was no timeline for the process, but it could take weeks.

Witnesses said Wilson shot and killed Brown on Aug. 9 while the teen had his hands in the air. But officers maintained there was a struggle before Wilson shot Brown - either Brown or his friend allegedly tried to grab Wilson's gun.

Wilson went to the hospital after the incident, but there are conflicting reports as to the injuries he sustained.

Earlier this week, media reports claimed the officer suffered a broken eye socket during the alleged altercation. On Thursday, CNN called that report a rumor, and claimed a source confirmed Wilson had a swollen face, but no socket fracture.

Saturday will mark the two-week anniversary of Brown's death.
