Nominations for the 66th annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced Thursday morning, with perennial favorites like AMC's 'Mad Men' and HBO's 'Game of Thrones' joining newcomers like that network's 'True Detective' among the dramas selected as television's best.
'Breaking Bad' on AMC, which won the Emmy for best drama last year, was recognized for its acclaimed final season. Several of the show's stars, including Bryan Cranston, the show's star, was named in the lead actor category.
In the best comedy category, the cable sitcom 'Louie' was nominated alongside more popular network hits like 'The Big Bang Theory' on CBS and ABC's 'Modern Family,' which has won the Emmy in each of the last four years.
The Emmys, scheduled to take place Aug. 25 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, will be telecast on NBC. Seth Meyers, host of a late-night talk show on that network, will emcee the ceremony.
Please check back throughout the morning for more Emmys coverage, including interviews with nominees, a look at surprises and snubs and more.
