'Daily Show'correspondent Larry Wilmore to replace Colbert Report slot

What a week to be a black correspondent.

Comedy Central has announced its replacement for the Colbert Report in the Daily Show's 'Senior Black Correspondent' Larry Wilmore.

Wilmore will host his own show called 'The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore' following Stephen Colbert's leave in January, Comedy Central revealed Friday.

Wilmore, who joined the Daily Show with Jon Stewart's 'Best F*&#ing News Team Ever!' in 2006, will take over Colbert's 11:30 p.m. time slot.

'...the series will feature a diverse panel of voices currently underrepresented in comedy and television,' according to the station, while still focusing on news - from a cultural and comedic perspective.

'We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Jon Stewart and Busboy Productions, and are looking forward to the world getting to know Larry Wilmore even better. He's a spectacular talent in front of and behind the camera,' said Michele Ganeless, President, Comedy Central.

''The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore' follows in the Comedy Central tradition - bringing new perspectives to the day's events and breaking ground in the world of late night television.'

The Daily Show

The Emmy Award-winning writer, for his co-creation of the Bernie Mac Show in 2002, had provided a number of reports tackling racism over the years for Jon Stewart's nightly program.

In last month's Daily Show report titled, 'A Diverse Array of American Racism,' Wilmore acutely addressed Cliven Bundy and Donald Sterling's racist statements which broke 'in one news cycle.'

'Oh man holy s*** Jon, what a week to be Senior Black Correspondent!' he exclaimed while opening a piece that went on to list the growing issues for blacks, including stop and frisk and diabetes.

The coveted move for Wilmore means he'll have to move from Los Angeles to New York, a decision not taken lightly by anyone involved.

'While Larry Wilmore is a brilliant comic and showrunner, this is all just a complicated ruse to get him to move to New York and turn him into a Knicks fan,' remarked Jon Stewart.

'I'm beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart,' countered Wilmore. 'I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker t-shirts when I'm layering.'
