Humboldt State University released a statement saying it was 'getting word of an accident involving a charter bus that was bringing a group of prospective students to the university's April 12 Spring Preview Day.' The university said it was investigating.
The California Highway Patrol said the accident occurred on the northbound 5 near Orland in Glenn County.
CHP Officer Curtis Pahka told The Times that a third car was involved and that the freeway was closed.
A local TV station, KHSL Channel 12, reported that more than 30 people were injured and that the bus was carrying Los Angeles-area high school seniors who was traveling to Humboldt State University. The CHP could not confirm that information.
