On March 24, 1989, the Exxon Valdez oil tanker was transporting 53 million gallons of crude oil when it struck the Bligh Reef in the Prince William Sound, off the shores of Alaska. It's been 25 years since the accident. Over 11 million gallons of oil spilled across 1,300 miles of shoreline, covering 3,000 square miles - more than twice the size of Rhode Island.
